Winter Exhibition Abbey Library (November 14, 2023 - April 21, 2024).
Manuscripts are one of a kind. They are particularly valuable if they are also unique, for example if they alone transmit an important text. However, many unique items are personal and unspectacular, such as a private letter or a scribble in the margin.
The Abbey Library of St Gall holds many items that are unique in one way or another, and these are the focus of this exhibition. However, what exactly constitutes uniqueness and how does it come about?
