Camminata dell'Arbola

We take the regional train from Brig to Domodossola at 7.41 a.m., where a bus awaits us for the trip to Alpe Devero. After a bus ride of around an hour, we reach the parking lot on the edge of the Alpe. We hike from Devero to Crampiolo in around 45 minutes. There is a small snack bar above the picturesque alpine settlement and we fortify ourselves with an Italian coffee.
Now begins the long ascent on the south side of the Albrun Pass, initially leisurely through larch forest along the turquoise-blue Lago di Devero, then past alpine huts to the lake at Pianboglio. The path becomes steeper and we quickly gain altitude on numerous hairpin bends. After around three hours, we have made it: we have reached the boundary stone on the 2400 m high Albrun Pass (Italian: Bocchetta dell'Arbola). We only allow ourselves a short rest, because after a few bends on Swiss soil, the renovated Binntalhütte of the SAC Delémont awaits us. Here we enjoy raclettes, wine and a dessert and have a rest.
The descent through the moorland of Oxefeld and Blatt is gentle and extremely scenic. Almost the entire Binntal valley lies at our feet, from the Ofenhorn in the east to the Breithorn in the west. A minibus awaits us in Wyssebach and Brunnebiel to take us to Fäld and Binn on the Postbus. | Meeting point: Brig, railroad station
