Dunant Plaza, Kirchplatz 9, 9410 Heiden
We know Henry Dunant (1828-1910) as the initiator of the world's largest humanitarian aid organisation, the ICRC.
It is less well known that Dunant travels to North Africa at the age of 25 on behalf of the "Geneva Trading Company of the Swiss Colonies of Sétif". It is the beginning of his activity as a colonial administrator and businessman, which will shape him and weigh on his life.
With the exhibition in the glass veranda of Dunant Plaza, the museum, together with the cultural scientist Ina Boesch, focuses on this little-discussed phase of Dunant's life. How can Henry Dunant's colonial activities be reconciled with his philanthropic world view?
