Das Bewässerungsexperiment der WSL im Schutzgebiet Pfynwald

DILEI, Meschlersaal, Sustenstrasse 3 (vis à vis Bäckerei Mathieu), 3952 Susten
The lecture is free of charge.
The Pfynwald is one of the driest areas in the whole of Europe. Pine dieback has been increasing here for years. The WSL has launched a globally unique experiment: "VPDrought".
Since 2024, WSL has been investigating how trees react to drought on the research platform in the Pfyn Forest. Eight different areas are being observed, each of which is treated differently. Some trees are irrigated, others receive no water. In some, the influence of hot, dry air is also tested, while in another area everything remains as usual. The measuring devices indicate how warm the treetops are, how much light comes back from them and how much sunlight hits the trees. The researchers hope that the results will provide information on how trees can be better protected in the future.

At this lecture evening, you will receive first-hand information from Dr. Marcus Schaub of the WSL, project leader of the "VPDrought" experiment.
