About us

The Black Sea Guild was founded in 1955 to organize a masked ball and other carnival activities to foster a sense of community and preserve the joyful carnival spirit. The name derives from the Bellach pond, which is known as the "Black Sea." In 1970, the Black Sea Frogs were formed as a Guggenmusik band. Today, the active carnival scene in Bellach is largely comprised of this band. The guild sees itself as a relaxed group that shapes the village carnival in Bellach. Current activities include the Chesslete (a traditional carnival procession) on Shrove Thursday and the important children's masked ball on Saturday afternoon. The festivities conclude with the "Lampe abeloh" (a traditional carnival procession) at Schoolhouse 2. The guild also has a history of legendary two-day guild trips. The target audience is everyone who wants to get involved in and help shape the carnival in Bellach.
