About us
Since 1978, the Dierikon St. Nicholas group has been dedicated to preserving and continuing the old traditions surrounding the Bishop of Myra in the municipality of Dierikon. The group organizes the annual St. Nicholas season kickoff with a whip-cracking course starting in mid-November. They announce St. Nicholas's arrival with a procession of bell ringers and whip crackers on the Saturday before his arrival. On the following Sunday, St. Nicholas is welcomed by the community at the church and accompanied by the entire St. Nicholas group. From December 3rd to 6th, St. Nicholas visits children in their homes, accompanied by his attendant, Knecht Ruprecht, Schmutzli, and the bell ringers and whip crackers. Children from the 3rd grade onward can accompany and announce St. Nicholas as bell ringers or lantern bearers. Children from the 5th grade onward can participate as whip crackers. Even teenagers in secondary school are warmly welcome. Interested adults can also get involved in the club.
