About us
The Laufental-Thierstein Mycological Society is dedicated to promoting mycology and protecting fungi. Our goal is to help people learn about mushrooms and provide guidance on their use to prevent mushroom poisoning. We also focus on mapping mushroom species for distribution atlases and Red Lists, as well as fostering camaraderie among our members. Our activities include weekly mushroom identification evenings from spring to autumn, where members can identify their own finds and work with magnifying glasses and microscopes. We maintain a library of specialist literature and organize four group excursions into the forests each year. We also conduct mushroom inspections and provide information to the public. For children, we offer guided forest walks as part of the holiday program, and every three years we organize a large mushroom exhibition in Zwingen. Members benefit from free participation in identification evenings and excursions, receive a subscription to the Swiss Journal of Mycology, and are invited to the Annual General Meeting with dinner. Those interested are welcome to attend a mushroom identification evening without obligation.
