About us

The Fifes and Drums "La Maya" is a musical society from the village of Suen in Saint-Martin, Valais. The club was officially founded in 1979, reviving a village musical tradition whose earliest traces date back to the 15th century. The active members consist of fife and drum players, complemented by halberdiers and a flag bearer. The society offers its members musical practice within a structure that values friendship and tradition. Members participate in numerous local events such as Corpus Christi, the Saint-Martin Patron Saint's Day, and the carnival. They are also involved in regional and national events through their membership in the Association of Drums and Fifes of French-speaking Valais, the Union of French-speaking Swiss Drum, Fife, and Bugle Societies, and the Swiss Drum Association. The club also provides training for young musicians. The target audience consists of people interested in traditional fife and drum music, as well as the preservation of the cultural heritage of Saint-Martin.
