Vereinigung Freunde von Schmitten

The Friends of Schmitten Association was founded in 1966. Its mission was to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the village. The association fosters a sense of community between locals and those living elsewhere. The Friends of Schmitten boast over four hundred members. They publish an annual chronicle of Schmitten, documenting village life over the previous year. The association is involved in various projects, including the restoration of the old village sawmill. It also maintains Schmitten's photographic record. Furthermore, it supports the preservation of the Schmitten song and the festive ringing of the village church bells. The association also operates its own village museum, showcasing how people lived and worked in Schmitten in bygone eras. The museum is open to everyone interested in Schmitten's culture and history, including both locals and those from outside the village who have a connection to Schmitten.
