The rowing section of Grasshopper Club Zürich was founded in 1904 - by footballers who were drawn to the water as well - making it one of Switzerland's most traditional rowing clubs. For over 120 years we have supported both competitive and recreational rowing, alongside an active social club life centred around our boathouse on the Mythenquai in Zürich.

Our members range from ambitious athletes to recreational rowers who value the lake above all as a source of exercise and community. Our athletes consistently win Swiss Championships and we regularly have international representation. Our men's eight has won every Swiss Championship since 2017, with the exception of 2024, when no eight was entered, and 2021, when it won as a composite crew.

In 2023, after 119 years as a men-only club, the section opened its doors to women - since then, men and women have rowed together at GC. The women's squad has already shown real success, winning the pair in 2025 and, after just one year of a formal women's programme, taking bronze in the women's eight in 2026. Our junior girls have also medalled at Swiss Championships.

We don't only focus on flat water rowing. The club has produced medallists across age groups at the Swiss Indoors, and the juniors have been very successful at the Swiss Beach Sprints, winning the mixed double multiple times.

We have regular international representation, across men/women and juniors, and we are very proud to support our athletes on their journeys. 

Beyond training on the water, our section thrives on events such as group rowing trips, barbecue evenings, and the monthly gathering of the "Ziischtig-Club," which has been bringing current and former rowers together for over 50 years. Our goal is for the boathouse to a base to bring together our community. Whether it's competitive sport or an after-work outing, there's a seat in the boat for everyone.
