This is not the first time that star oboist Albrecht Mayer has been a guest in the Bernese Oberland - and once again promises to be a highlight of the Bachwochen Thun when he joins Liisa Randalu (viola) and Vital Julian Frey (harpsichord) to perform trio sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, which were originally written for solo organ and are particularly appealing here with the different timbres of the three instruments. The number three is also taken up by the contemporary solo works, which alternate with Bach's music: In addition to a viola solo dedicated to Liisa Randalu by Estonian composer Tõnu Kõrvits, we can expect two world premieres for harpsichord and oboe respectively by Gordon Hamilton, who was celebrated at last year's Bachwochen.
