A sad comedy at the turn of the year
Leo Waller, who lives alone and lonely in his basement apartment, doesn't want to spend the New Year alone. He originally plans to hire pop singer Monja for New Year's Eve, but cancels this plan. Instead, he accepts an offer from Caritas and invites Herbert Stein, a mentally disabled resident, to join him.
The initial encounter between Leo and Herbert is characterized by reserve. Both men are trapped in their own worlds: Leo in the nostalgia of his past and Herbert in his own reality. Despite their differences, they slowly begin to build a connection with each other.
The situation changes when Monja unexpectedly appears to fulfill her engagement. Her presence brings dynamism to the relationship between the two men. Over the course of the evening, all three begin to drop their masks. Hidden longings, fears and hopes come to light. The characters confront their own life lies and the reality of their loneliness, only to find each other in the end. A glimmer of hope into the new year.
