Hans Hirsbrunner grew up in Burgdorf. He completed his organ studies with Rudolf Meyer (then in Burgdorf), Heinrich Gurtner (cathedral organist in Bern) and Dr. Theodor Käser (cathedral organist in Schaffhausen). He then studied musicology in Bern and Berlin. Hans Hirsbrunner worked as an organist in the Protestant Reformed parish of Burgdorf for 50 years.
