At the Pays-d'Enhaut Museum - Swiss Centre for Paper Cutting, the lace-makers of the region are working on all kinds of lace creations. Discover how this art is made in action!
An important part of the history and traditions of the Pays-d'Enhaut, lacemaking is a meticulous craft. Equipped with several white or coloured threads, the lacemakers move their bobbins little by little, respecting the stitches to form a delicate lace!

At a time when bobbin lace was tending to be lost, at the beginning of the 20th century a few lacemakers founded the Association des Dentellières du Pays-d'Enhaut. While using old piquées to rediscover the craft, they also created their own designs, bringing lace back into fashion.

In 1976, the Association was on the verge of dying out again due to a lack of new members, but Anne Rieben took up the torch. After a first meeting in Château-d'Œx in 1982, a Swiss Federation of Lacemakers was created. Today, some fifteen members, of all ages, continue to practise and perpetuate this craft in the Pays-d'Enhaut, with a spirit of renewal that has made it a recognised hobby and qualified as an "art craft".
