Anne Blanchet : Lumière et mouvement

Galerie St-Hilaire, which has been active in Fribourg since 2012, is inaugurating its new space in April 2024 with a solo exhibition by Swiss artist Anne Blanchet, known for her regular participation in the Bex&Arts Triennial of contemporary outdoor sculpture and for her installations combining movement and visual phenomena. In Fribourg, she is the author of the monumental installation PONT DE LUMIÈRE (BRIDGE OF LIGHT), located in front of the Pérolle II university buildings: eighteen 5-metre-long passage barriers, equipped with white neon lights, create ten different choreographies, coloured by day and luminous by night, as they rise and fall according to a set rhythm.The exhibition LUMIÈRE ET MOUVEMENT presents a series of "Light Drawings", emblematic works by the artist:The surface is flat and smooth, the medium colorless, the intervention soberly minimalist. Yet nuanced white and grey shadows appear in the depths of the material, both translucent and opaque, into which the artist has made fine incisions. These "drawings of light", curves in movement or straight lines in tension in space, become apparent reliefs, changing according to the effects of light.Anne Blanchet's works question our vision, challenging our perception of reality through subtle, almost imperceptible changes caused by the incidence of light. The boundary between illusion and reality, between the visible and the invisible, becomes as tenuous as the lines incised by the artist.By taking the time to observe and receive, we are invited to join in the meditative dimension of her Light Drawings, which appeal as much to our minds as to our sensibilities.
