Featuring 650 objects unearthed during archaeological excavations of camps in Germany, France and Poland, the Laténium's new exhibition brings us face-to-face with the efforts made by millions of people to adapt and resist collective confinement, scarcity, dehumanisation, brutality, anguish, boredom and arbitrariness.
As the last generation of Second World War survivors passes away and the void left by the dismantling of these places of life and death is gradually filled by new constructions, living in camps still marks the existence of countless human beings around the world. It is this day-to-day life, revealed through minute objects, that the exhibition seeks to reveal.
