Laténium, Esplanade de l’Holocène, 2068 Hauterive NE
The Laténium’s new exhibition delves into the colonial era of slavery in the 18th century, recounting a harrowing story of abandonment and survival in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Against hunger, thirst, and the devastation of tropical cyclones, the strength of life, solidarity, and technical ingenuity resisted the dehumanization of the slave system.
“The Island of Sand” shows how archaeology restores a voice to the victims of the slave trade, where historical narratives remain silent.
