Manoir de la ville de Martigny, Ganioz Project Space (GPS), Rue du Manoir 3, 1920 Martigny
Exhibition "L'émission des choses", from March 21 to May 12, 2024, in the presence of Christel Voeffray at espace GPS au Manoir de la ville de Martigny.
As part of the exhibition Nouvelle génération, the Ganioz Project Space (GPS) at the Manoir de la Ville de Martigny welcomes, from March 21 to May 12, 2024, artist Christel Voeffray, winner of the ArtPro 2022 grant awarded by the State of Valais to support emerging∙e∙x∙s artists. In this exhibition, the artist presents her project, L'Émission des choses.

Christel Voeffray is a visual artist, practicing the medium of drawing and articulating a reflection around the object. For her exhibition L'Émission des choses, she uses recycled and melted pewter objects, taking advantage of this material's remarkable capacity for almost infinite reuse. The objects serve as raw materials for new creations, where manual deformations and anthropomorphic elements are integrated, giving rise to invisible characters.

"Everyday objects are reservoirs of our desires, memories, collective memory and identity. They are also reflective surfaces; these objects have a power of action over us, interfering with our emotions and gestures." Christel Voeffray

The artist's radical gesture of "destruction" and the resulting new creation are a tribute to reuse and continual metamorphosis. By revealing this creative process and highlighting the destroyed objects, Christel Voeffray's work calls into question our model of consumption. In the end, this accumulation makes us aware of the absurdity of such mass production, while at the same time fostering an emotional bond with the newly created objects.

After training in graphic design at the École de Design et Haute École d'Art de Sierre (EDHEA) and a year at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), she obtained a bachelor's degree in plastic, visual and spatial arts, specializing in drawing, at the École de Recherche Graphique (ERG) in Brussels. She spent the last year of her studies on international exchange in Mexico City at CENART (Centro Nacional de las Artes) at La Esmeralda.
She currently lives between Brussels, where she studies contemporary art history at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), and Valais, where she has been teaching at EDHEA since 2023. She is also a member of the Collectif Facteur.
