In the series “Strands,” created specifically for the Kunstkasten, Carole Isler (*1990) explores structure and movement in the image. Taking female hair as its starting point—somewhere between figuration and abstraction—the paintings draw parallels between hair and water, both of which symbolize transformation. Public space itself becomes an integral part of the works: the direct connection to the Rhine enters into a dialogue with depictions of the Nile, linking diverse geographical and cultural experiences. A stay along the Nile shaped her exploration of hair, change, and perception. This gives rise to connections between femininity, landscape, and memory.
