On expedition with Erhard Loretan
Fribourg mountaineer Erhard Loretan (1959 -2011) pushed back the limits of what was possible. He was the first Swiss to climb all 14 of the world's 8000-meter peaks. With minimalist equipment and a steady pace, he made daring ascents in the Alps and Himalayas. His style and expeditions left their mark on subsequent generations. After his death, his family donated the archives of this exceptional mountaineer to the ALPS.Tutoyer les limites brings to life the physical and mental challenges of mountaineering, and questions our own notions of limits and willpower. The exhibition features previously unpublished logbooks and original films by this exceptional mountaineer. They show that to succeed, you need not only a great deal of experience, but also great perseverance and the wisdom to know when to give up. The exhibition was made possible by a generous bequest from René and Alice Laube.Opening: January 30, 2026 - 6:00 pm Come and share a moment with his climbing companions, André Georges & Jean Troillet. A musical journey awaits you in the company of cellist Sara Oswald.Guided tour: March 3, 2026 - 6:30 pmWith Matthieu Fournier, journalist with Passe-moi les jumelles (PAJU). The tour will be rounded off with a screening of the film Respirer l'odeur du ciel.
