A direct descendant of the emigrants is the artist Roseli Ritzmann. She is showing a selection of textile artworks under the title "Organics".
Escape from the homeland
175 years ago, hunger and hardship prevailed in Schaffhausen. Many escaped poverty and emigrated. To the south-east of Brazil, for example, where they founded what is now the town of Joinville.
