Philipp Heinrich Erlebach, born in 1657, is one of those composers whose rediscovery is an inexhaustible source of wonder.

Unlike many German musicians, Erlebach did not travel throughout Europe, but always remained as a musician, and later Kapellmeister, at the castle of Albert Anton von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. He transformed this court into a musical Mecca and, in the process, established a considerable reputation as a composer in central Germany. His magnificent sonatas for violin, viola and continuo have been available since the early 20th century, but are strangely very little known by the broader public... Ensemble Temenos will be performing four of them.
Excerpts from his Harmonische Freude musicalischer Freunde, an important collection of superbly written arias accompanied by two violins, will also be performed.
In view of the quality of his compositions, it is immensely regrettable that more than a thousand of Erlebach's works were irretrievably lost in a fire in the eighteenth century. The Ensemble Temenos invites you to pay tribute to his genius!
