Pollegio ist ein kleines Dorf in der unteren Leventina und hat dank der neuen Eisenbahnalpentransversale neue Bedeutung erlangt. Während des Baus des Tunnels befand sich hier der Installationsplatz für das Südportal und heute befindet sich im Ort das Besucherzentrum Gotthard-Süd, in dem man alles über das Jahrhunderbauwerk NEAT erfahren kann.
